Apple blossom jelly is my latest in the edible flower jelly journey! The flowers are so pretty and make great jelly. I have several apple trees, but one, in particular, does not produce good apples, so I picked some blossoms from that tree. You can also use crab apple blossoms to make the jelly. I have a crab apple tree that I may try next year to make jelly from the blossoms and also may make crap apple jelly this fall.
Basic Steps to Make Apple Blossom Jelly
- Pick the apple blossoms from the apple or crabapple tree
- Add 4 cups boiling water to the petals
- Add lemon juice to the blossom/water mixture
- Place in refrigerator for 24 hours
- Strain the blossoms from the liquid
- Add liquid to pot and bring to a boil
- Next add pectin, bring to boil for one minute and stir continuously
- Add 4 cups of sugar, stir to dissolve and boil for 1 to 2 minutes
- Ladle the jelly in to canning jars and water bath can for 10 minutes
Beautiful and Healthy Blossoms
Apple trees are so pretty when they are blossoming. The apple blossoms also provide health benefits and are high in antioxidants and can be used to make a healthy tea. Apple blossom tea can be good for the digestive system, act as a stress reliever, be good for the skin, and help to reduce fatty build-up and revitalizes the blood.
Here is a picture of one of my apple trees in full bloom. I hope I get a great crop of apples this year. I love to can apple pie filling, apple sauce and apple butter!

Detailed Instructions for Making Apple Blossom Jelly
The first step is to pick or cut off the apple blossoms. About 4 cups of loose blossoms are good. Then separate the leaves, sticks, and stems. My flower petals included pink flowers and white flowers.

Put the blossoms in a quart mason jar or a large bowl.

Add four cups of boiling water to the apple blossoms.

Next add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice to the apple blossom/water mixture and then place in the refrigerator for 24 hours so the tea can steep.

The next day, strain the blossoms from the liquid with a fine mesh sieve, coffee filter, or cheese cloth. It should result in close to four cups of apple blossom tea.

Squeeze the remaining liquid from the blossoms. The apple blossom tea I made turned out to be a beautiful yellow color.

Pour the tea into a large saucepan or large pot and add 1 package of powdered pectic. I use Sure Jell. Stir to dissolve. Heat over medium-high heat to a full boil.

Add 4 cups of sugar, bring to a boil and boil for 1 to 2 minutes. Turn off the heat and then ladle the hot jelly into canning jars.

Fill the jars to 1/4 inch headspace. Wipe jar rims with a damp cloth or wet paper towel and remove the air bubbles. Put the lids and screw bands on the jars and place jars into the water bath canner.

I filled up 5 half pint jars and 2 4-oz jelly canning jars. Process the jars in the water bath canner at a full rolling boil for 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and remove the hot jars with a jar lifter. Set the jars on a dish cloth on the counter and do not disturb for 24 hours. Note: Sometimes it takes at least a day or more for the jelly to completely set up. Most of the time they are not quite set when you remove them from the canner.
Enjoy!
Enjoy the finished product, delicious apple blossom jelly! It is so sweet and yummy.
