I plan to post many of my instant pot recipes on this website, starting with this one. Since I just made these instant pot wings yesterday, I thought it would be a good time to post the recipe! This chicken wing recipe makes delicious chicken wings in a fraction of the time compared to cooking in an oven or air fryer, taking 10-15 minutes to cook and making very tender wings.

Basic Steps for Cooking the Chicken Wings

  1. Season the wings
  2. Add one cup of water to the instant pot
  3. Place wings on the trivet in the instant pot
  4. Close the lid and turn the valve to sealed
  5. Cook on high pressure and set the timer
  6. When cooking is done, do a quick release
  7. Toss the wings in large bowl of sauce to coat

Detailed Steps for Cooking the Chicken Wings

When cooking wings in the instant pot you can cook from frozen or fresh chicken wings. The first step is to season the wings. With frozen the seasoning may not stick. Season with any seasonings desired, onion powder, black pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, buffalo seasoning, or whatever you want. I used Cavender’s All Purpose Greek Seasoning on mine. It is one of my favorite all around seasonings.

Add one cup of water to the bottom of the instant pot. Place the wings on the trivet in the instant pot.

It doesn’t really matter how many wings you cook as long as it is under the maximum fill line on the inner pot. This recipe can make several pounds of chicken wings. I usually use a whole bag of chicken wings.

Close the lid and turn the valve to seal. Press high pressure and then the cooking time desired. For frozen wings select 15 minutes and for fresh wings select 12 minutes.

When the cooking time is complete, do a quick release and open the lid. Remove the wings and toss in a large mixing bowl of sauce to coat.

Like the seasoning, you can use whatever wing sauce you would like. You can use your favorite barbecue sauce for bbq wings, teriyaki sauce, homemade buffalo sauce, or franks redhot buffalo sauce. I usually use franks.

Remove the wings and place in a single layer on a prepared baking sheet. I use a glass pan to bake my wings on. You can use a cookie sheet or a cookie sheet covered in aluminum foil or parchment paper.

Place on the top oven rack and broil in the oven to caramelize the sauce and to make the wings a little crisper. I like crispy wings, so I left mine in a little longer.
