The wild orange daylily commonly called ditch lily or tiger lily are found in ditches, forests and fields.
The basic process for making orange daylily jelly starts with picking the flowers. You need 2 to 4 cups of petals.
Remove the petals and tear them into smaller pieces. Place them in large bowl or quart mason jar
Add 4 cups of boiling water to the petals, then add 2 Tbsp of lemon juice
Put the orange daylily tea in the refrigerator for 24 hours
The next day, strain the petals from the tea
Add the tea to a large pot and stir in 1 package of powdered pectin. Bring to a boil
Stir in 4 cups of sugar, bring to a boil and let boil for 1 to 2 minutes
Ladle the jelly into jars using a canning funnel. The recipe makes 5 to 6 half pint jelly jars.
Fill the jars to 1/4 inch headspace. Wipe the rims and add the lids.
Process in a hot water bath for 10 minutes
